Worker Approved Occupational Rehabilitation Services

WorkCover has recognised a number of occupational rehabilitation (OR) services for workers with capacity for work to assist them to return to work. Some or all of these OR services may be needed to return the injured worker to work. What type of occupational rehabilitation (OR) services are approved by a WorkCover agent depends on whether the return to work (RTW) focus is to help the injured worker back to work with their injury employer or if that is not possible, then returning them to work with a new employer.

OR services are most usually delivered at the workplace of the injury or new employer.

OR services can only be delivered by OR providers approved by WorkCover.

A worker is required to participate in OR services to remain entitled to weekly benefits.

A request for OR services can be made by the worker or the worker’s treating health care provider or their employer however, the WorkCover agent responsible for managing the worker’s claim must approve the OR service before it is offered or provided to a worker.

An OR service can be approved by a WorkCover agent for an injured worker although a decision about claim liability has not been made.

This section of the website provides the tools and information explaining how OR services can be used to assist injured workers achieve a safe and sustainable return to work following injury.
