Apprentice / Trainee Remuneration
If you hire any apprentices and/or trainees - even if you only hire one - you must have a WorkSafe Injury Insurance policy in place regardless of your remuneration.
Some apprentice/trainee remuneration is exempt from WorkSafe Injury Insurance and it is important that you are aware of certain restrictions and qualifications that apply.
Change to rules for exempt trainee remuneration – effective 1 July 2005
The remuneration exemption provides an incentive for employers to employ new apprentice and trainees.
While the existing rules for apprentices and trainees remain valid – two new rules for the exemption of trainee remuneration have been introduced with effect from 1 July 2005 (refer to the FAQ’s for more information on the existing and new rules).

The annualised remuneration of a trainee (not apprentice) must not be more than:
|

|
2006/07 |

Because of these changes employers need to distinguish between traineeship and apprenticeship courses
To assist you in distinguishing between traineeships and apprenticeships we have compiled a complete list of all Skills Victoria recognised apprenticeships (described as Set one).

Please note: any course that appears on this list is an apprenticeship and any course that does not appear on this list is a traineeship.
