Primary Producers and Forestry Operators – Licence for High Risk Work (Forklift Truck class)
As a result of new Occupational Health and Safety regulations, forklift truck operators who work for Victorian primary producers and forestry operators are required to hold a Licence to Perform High Risk Work from 1 July 2008. Under the old regulations, forklift operators in these industries were not required to obtain a Certificate of Competency to operate a forklift.
The regulations were changed to align with national standards on occupation health and safety.
WorkSafe, in collaboration with the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) and the Victorian Association of Forest Industries (VAFI), has introduced a rebate scheme to minimise licensing costs for affected workers in these industries.
Key Features of the Rebate Scheme
- A WorkSafe rebate (including completion of assessment) may be payable directly to a nominated licence applicant for obtaining the new Licence to Perform High Risk Work (LHRW), if the Primary Producers/Forestry Operators who employ them were previously excluded from requiring a forklift licence before 1 July 2007
- The rebate is for forklift licence classes only. Tractors with a mast attachment do not require a licence
- The rebate must be applied for by the primary producer/forestry operator by 30 June 2008
- There is a limit of 3 rebates per workplace for persons who successfully obtain a forklift licence
- Standard WorkSafe High Risk Work Licence and Assessment processes apply
- Primary Producers/Forestry Operators are required to provide proof of their eligibility status, according to Australian Taxation Office standards, to be eligible for the Rebate Scheme.
